Database Wizard – Block Elements

Database Wizard (Input Block) – Step 4
Database Wizard (Modification Block) – Step 5
Database Wizard (Table Block) – Step 5
Database Wizard (List Block) – Step 5
Database Wizard (Detail Block) – Step 5

In this step of the Database Wizard, you select the fields that will be displayed in an input, modification, table, list, or detail block.

In the previous step of the Database Wizard, you selected the database fields that would be used by the block that you are creating. In this step, you decide which of the selected database fields will actually be displayed in the block, and in what order. If you wish, you can specify that some database fields should not be displayed in the block, or that other database fields should be displayed more than once. Also, you may wish to set up the order of the fields in the block differently from the order of the fields in the database.

Block element list

The list shows the block elements that are currently set up. Block elements include not just fields, but also drop-down menus, radio button groups, and links that are used to show additional records. Initially, the items in this list include each database field that you selected in the previous step of the wizard, plus a page link element if the block type is table or list. The Element type column shows the type of each block element that is currently set up. The Element column shows the name of each block element. You can double-click an item in the list to view the properties of that element.

Add button

Click to add an element to the block. A pop-up menu will appear, displaying the available element types. What types are available depends on the type of block you are creating (see table below). When you select an element type to add, a dialog box will open in which you specify the properties of the element.

Remove button

Click to remove the selected block element.

Up button

Click to move the selected element up. It will occupy a higher row in the finished block. (In a table block, the element will be moved to the left.)

Down button

Click to move the selected element down. It will occupy a lower row in the finished block. (In a table block, the element will be moved to the right.)
