Spreadsheet dialog box

Insert > Data > Spreadsheet

Imports a table from a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and inserts it into the current document, converting it into a standard HTML table with an optional link to the original spreadsheet.

Source

Excel file

Select this option to use an existing Excel file. Type the path or URL to the file, or click Browse to locate and select an Excel file.

Current table in current document

Select this option to send the current table to Microsoft Excel, then import it again as an Excel table.

Insertion method

Link to original spreadsheet

Converts the Excel table into an HTML table and inserts a hidden link to the original spreadsheet. The table can now be edited in Microsoft Excel by right-clicking it and selecting Edit Spreadsheet from the shortcut menu. The contents are automatically updated in the Edit window when edited and the Excel document is closed. If you open and edit the original spreadsheet without using the Edit Spreadsheet command, you can select Update Spreadsheet Contents to update the table in the Edit window.

Embed into HTML document

Converts the Excel table into an HTML table and embeds a hidden copy of the original Excel table in the HTML document. This is similar to linking to an existing Excel file, but allows editing in Excel even if original Excel file is moved, renamed or deleted.

Static import

Converts the Excel table into an HTML table without linking to or embedding a copy of the original Excel file. The table is not editable in Excel.
