Posting to a blog
If you maintain a weblog, or blog, that is hosted by Blogger.com or that runs on the Movable Type publishing platform, you can use Namo WebEditor to:
- upload documents to your blog as new posts
- download existing posts from your blog, edit them, and reupload them
At this time, Namo WebEditor supports posting to Blogger.com and Movable Type blogs only.
Entering information about a blog account
Before you can post to a blog from Namo WebEditor, you need to enter some basic information about your blog account and server.
- Click the Namo button, point to Blog, and then click Blog Management. This will open the Blog List dialog box.
- Click Add. The Blog Server Information dialog box will open.
- Enter a name for the blog account. This name is used only within Namo WebEditor; it does not need to be the same as the blog’s actual name.
- Select the blog type as “Movable Type” or “Blogger.com”.
- Enter the host name of the blog server in the Server URL box. If you selected Blogger.com for the blog type, this box will be filled in automatically, and you should not need to change it. For a Movable Type blog, enter the server’s host name or IP address without “http://”.
- In the API path box, enter the path on the blog server to the upload script or handler. For Blogger.com, this box will be filled in automatically, and you should not need to change it. For Movable Type, enter the full path to the mt-xmlrpc.cgi file, starting with a slash; for example, “/mt/mt-xmlrpc.cgi” or “/~jsmith/mt/mt-xmlrpc.cgi” (without the quote marks).
- If the Movable Type server uses a different TCP port than the default port 80, enter the correct port number in the Port box. For Blogger.com, you should not need to change this setting.
- If you connect to your blog server through a proxy, click Advanced, enter the proxy’s host name and port number, and then click OK.
- (optional) Under User Account, enter the user ID and password you use to log in to the blog and select Save password. If you don’t want Namo WebEditor to remember your password, leave the Password box blank, and Namo WebEditor will prompt you to enter your ID and password each time you connect to the blog.
- Click OK.
To upload a document to a blog as a new post
- Click the Namo button, point to Blog, and then click Post to Blog. If you are already connected to the blog server, skip to step 3.
- Select the blog account for the blog you want to post to and click Connect. If prompted, enter your user ID and password and click OK.
- If the selected blog account has more than one blog, click the Blog name drop-down menu and select the blog you want to post to.
- If you want to upload the document as a draft (unpublished) post, select the Draft check box.
- Click Submit.
To edit an existing blog post in Namo WebEditor
- Click the Namo button, point to Blog, and then click Blog Management. If you are already connected to the blog server, skip to step 3.
- Select the blog account for the blog you want to post to and click Connect. If prompted, enter your user ID and password and click OK.
- If the selected blog account has more than one blog, select the desired blog on the Blogs list.
- Click Import to retrieve a list of the 10 most recent posts on the blog. If you need to list more than 10 posts, enter the number of posts to list in the Import count box before you click Import.
- Select the post you want to edit. You can preview the selected post by clicking View. To download the post for editing, click Edit. Namo WebEditor will create a new document and fill it with the content of the post.
- Edit the document as desired.
- When you are finished editing the document, press Ctrl+S, or on the File menu, click Save.
- Click Yes, click Submit, and then click Replace.
To disconnect from the connected blog account
- Click the Namo button, point to Blog, and then click Disconnect.
After posting a new or edited document to your blog, Namo WebEditor will remain connected to the blog server until you exit Namo WebEditor or use the Disconnect command. While connected, you can post additional documents to the same blog account without having to connect to it again.
