Document Properties dialog box – General tab
Document > Properties > Document Properties – General tab
Various document properties such as the title, the author, keywords, and language encoding can be specified.
Address
Specifies the location of the document. Usually, this is a location on your local drive. For newly created documents that have not yet been saved, this field is blank. If the document was imported from the Web but not saved to your local drive, the location is the URL from which the document was imported. This field cannot be edited. To change the location of a document, use the File > Save As menu command.
Base URL
Specifies the base location or URL for the document. This is used by Namo WebEditor and by Web browsers to calculate complete URLs from any relative URLs found in the document. For instance, if the document’s base location is “http://www.bigcompany.com” and the document contains a hyperlink using the relative URL “products/widget.html”, then the complete URL is “http://www.bigcompany.com/products/widget.html”. Normally, the base location should be left unspecified, so that relative URLs will refer to the directory that the document is in.
Title
Specifies the document’s title, as it appears in the title bar of a Web browser.
Author
Specifies the name of the document’s author, or any other information regarding authorship. If you enter a name in the Browser Defaults tab of the Preferences dialog box, under Information – Author, that name will be used as the default author name in all new documents.
Classification
Information that might be used to classify the document can be entered here.
Description
A brief description of the document’s contents or purpose can be entered here. This information may be used by Internet search engines to find relevant documents in a particular category or that match a search query.
Keywords
Words separated by commas may be entered, that may be used by Internet search engines to identify the document as relevant to a particular category or search query.
Character set
Choose a language encoding (also called “character set”) for the document from the drop-down menu. The corresponding HTML code is displayed in the text box on the right. The default character set is “(user-defined)”, meaning the document will use whatever character set has been set up as the default in a browser.
Web browsers use the character set specification in a document to determine how the document should be displayed. If a document contains non-Western text, such as Chinese, you should specify the appropriate language encoding for the document, such as “Chinese Traditional”. If you don’t specify the language encoding, Web browsers may attempt to display non-Western text using the Western character set, rendering it illegible.
Default target
Specifies the default target window or frame for links in the document. When a user clicks on any link in the document, the document which the link points to will load in the specified window or frame (unless the link itself specifies a different target).
