Drawing and painting on an image
Using various tools in the Image Effects dialog box, you can draw lines, rectangles, or ovals on an image; draw with a freehand pencil, paint with a freehand brush, or erase parts of an image with a freehand eraser.
To draw a line on an image
- Select the image on which you want to draw.
- Click the Layout tab, go to Effect, and then click Image Effects to open the Image Effects dialog box.
- On the tool palette, click (Draw Line).
- Click the desired line thickness on the options palette just below the tool palette.
- Click the Stroke color box and select the desired color for the line.
- Click and drag on the image to draw the line.
- Click OK.
- In the Save as box, enter the path and file name under which to save the modified image. Initially, the box contains the original image’s path and file name; if you want to replace the original image file, leave the path and file name unchanged.
- Under Save format, select the desired image format.
- Click OK.
To draw a rectangle or oval on an image
- Select the image on which you want to draw.
- Do one of the following to open the Image Effects dialog box:
- Right-click the image and click Image Effects.
- Click (Image Effects) on the Image Toolbar.
- On the tool palette, click (Draw Circle) or (Draw Square).
- On the options palette just below the tool palette, click the desired stroke/fill style:
- Draw stroke only (no fill)
- Draw stroke and fill
- Draw fill only (no stroke)
- Click the Stroke color box and select the desired color for the stroke (border of the shape), unless you chose the fill-only style.
- Click the Fill color box and select the desired color for the fill (inside of the shape), unless you chose the stroke-only style.
- Click and drag on the image to draw the shape.
- Click OK.
- In the Save as box, enter the path and file name under which to save the modified image. Initially, the box contains the original image’s path and file name; if you want to replace the original image file, leave the path and file name unchanged.
- Under Save format, select the desired image format.
- Click OK.
To draw on an image with a freehand pencil or brush
- Select the image on which you want to draw.
- Do one of the following to open the Image Effects dialog box:
- Right-click the image and click Image Effects.
- Click (Image Effects) on the Image Toolbar.
- On the tool palette, click (Pen) or (Brush).
- If you clicked , click the desired brush shape on the options palette just below the tool palette.
- Click the Stroke color box and select the desired color for the pencil or brush.
- Click and drag on the image to draw.
- Click OK.
- In the Save as box, enter the path and file name under which to save the modified image. Initially, the box contains the original image’s path and file name; if you want to replace the original image file, leave the path and file name unchanged.
- Under Save format, select the desired image format.
- Click OK.
To erase part of an image with a freehand eraser
- Select the image on which you want to use the eraser.
- Do one of the following to open the Image Effects dialog box:
- Right-click the image and click Image Effects.
- Click (Image Effects) on the Image Toolbar.
- On the tool palette, click (Eraser).
- Click the desired eraser shape on the options palette just below the tool palette.
- Click the Background color box and select the color you want to “reveal” when you erase part of the imag
e. - Click and drag on the image to erase the desired part.
- Click OK.
- In the Save as box, enter the path and file name under which to save the modified image. Initially, the box contains the original image’s path and file name; if you want to replace the original image file, leave the path and file name unchanged.
- Under Save format, select the desired image format.
- Click OK.
