Aligning content in cells

By default, the contents of a table cell are left-aligned and vertically centered within the cell. You can change a cell’s alignment settings on the Table Properties dialog box.

To set the alignment of the contents of cells
  1. Select the cells whose content you want to align.
  2. On the Layout menu, go to Table and then click Properties.
  3. On the Table Properties dialog box, click the Cell tab.
  4. Click the Horizontal alignment box and select Left, Right, or Center.
  5. click the Vertical alignment box and select Top, Middle, Bottom, or Baseline.

Namo Web Editor icon browser note Aligning content in cellsIn theory, if one cell in a row has its vertical alignment set to Baseline, the content of all other cells in the same row should start at the same vertical position as that of the cell whose vertical alignment is set to Baseline. In practice, however, most browsers treat Baseline alignment the same as Top alignment.
