Merging and splitting cells
Merging cells means combining two or more table cells into one. Splitting a cell means dividing it into two or more cells. You can merge and split cells using either menu/toolbar commands or the Table Pencil and Table Eraser tools.
To split cells
- Select the cells you want to split.
- Do one of the following:
- Right click, point to Table, click Split Cell.
- On the Layout menu, go to Merge, and then click Split Cell.
- Specify whether to split the cells into rows or columns and how many rows or columns to split each cell into.
- Click OK.
To split cells using the Table Pencil tool
- On the Insert menu, go to Table, click the trinalge under Table and then click Table Pencil.
- Draw lines where you want to split cells.
- When finished, press Esc or click (Escape Table Drawing Mode) on the Table Toolbar.
To merge cells
- Select two or more cells to merge.
- Do one of the following:
- Right click, point to Table, click Merge Cells.
- On the Layout menu, go to Merge, and then click Merge Cells.
The cells to be merged must comprise a rectangular block.
