Sort Table dialog box
Table Tools Layout > Convert and Calculate > Sort
Sorts a table or selected cells of a table using criteria you specify.
Sort by / then by / then by
- Check Sort left to right in the Options area to sort the table by rows rather than columns.
- Under Sort by, select the column or row to use as the primary sort criterion.
- Specify how to interpret the cell contents by selecting either As string or As number. To sort by numerical value, choose As number. Selecting As string will sort the table according to ASCII values. For instance, 0987 will appear before 125 even though its numerical value is greater.
- Select the sort order by clicking Ascending or Descending.
- If you wish to specify additional sort criteria, select them under then by.
Options
Sort left to right
Sorts by rows rather than columns. Not available if the table has only one column or if a single column was selected and sorted with Sort selected cells only. This option is forced on if the table has only a single row, or if you selected a single row and checked Sort selected cells only.
Sort selected cells only
Sorts only selected cells rather than the entire table. Available only when some cells have been selected. Checking this option forces the Sort contents only option.
Sort contents only
Sorts only the contents of the cells, leaving cell attributes such as background color unchanged.
Exclude the first selected row
Excludes the first row of the table or selection from sorting.
Exclude the last selected row
Excludes the last row of the table or selection from sorting, leaving the cell attributes such as background color unchanged.
