Smart ClipArt Editor – Layers tab
Layers are a method of organizing objects in the dimension of depth. All the objects in one layer are either “in front of” or “behind” all the objects in another layer, depending on which layer comes first in the layer order.
The Layers tab lets you not only create and manage layers, but also manage the objects in each layer.
(layer list)
The hierarchical list displays the names of the layers, and the names and previews of the objects in each layer. A small icon to the right of each object name indicates whether the object is a path or a text object. Clicking an object selects it on the canvas. Double-click a layer or object to rename it.
You can move objects within and between layers by dragging them in the list. As you drag, a thick gray line appears where the object will go when you release the mouse button. (Moving objects within a layer changes their Z-order.) Similarly, you can change the order of layers by dragging them in the list.
Immediately to the left of each layer name is a / icon. Click it to expand or collapse the layer, showing or hiding its contents in the list.
The leftmost two columns in the list display icons to indicate the visibility and locked/unlocked state of each layer and object:
- : If this icon appears to the left of a layer or object, it means the item (and all its children) is visible on the canvas. To toggle an item’s visibility, click the eye icon or the box where it would appear.
- : If this icon appears to the left of a layer or object, it means the item (and all its children) is locked against modification. To lock or unlock an item, click the padlock icon or the box where it would appear.
